Easy installation – step-by-step guide

For trees with large root balls (over 80 cm) or limited space:

  1. Dig a hole at least 70 cm deep. If the root ball is taller, make the hole 10 cm deeper than the root ball’s height.
  2. The width of the hole should be the root ball diameter + 60 cm in a square shape.
  3. Place the stone wool batts in a square around the root ball. Trim as needed.
  4. In tight spaces: place batts wherever space allows, even if not fully surrounding the root ball.
  5. Fill planting soil on the inside and sand or soil on the outside, up to the level where the root ball will be placed (the top of the root ball should be about 10 cm below surface level).
  6. Position the tree in the centre and simultaneously backfill with planting soil inside and sand/soil outside the batts.
  7. Compact the soil thoroughly to ensure stability.
  8. Secure the tree with 2–3 stakes placed inside the stone wool batts.
  9. For heavy clay soils, a macadam layer is recommended beneath the batts.
  10. Finish by adding 80–100 litres of water per stone wool batt.

For struggling trees or those with root damage:

  1. Dig a hole approx. 70 cm deep and 25–30 cm wide between large roots or near damaged areas.
  2. For general poor growth: place stone wool batts in a cross pattern radiating from the tree, without getting too close to the trunk.
  3. For root damage: place batts at the end of the damaged roots.
  4. Trim damaged roots near the placement of the batts.
  5. Insert the batts and cover the hole with existing or new soil.
  6. Finish by adding 80–100 litres of water per stone wool batt.

For planting beds:

  1. Dig a hole approx. 40 cm deep, depending on root ball size.
  2. Place the stone wool batts flat in the bottom of the hole.
  3. For plants with root balls: position plants on top of the batts and fill with planting soil to ground level.
  4. For bare-root plants: first fill with planting soil, then plant into the soil.
  5. Finish by adding 80–100 litres of water per stone wool batt.

Tip: Stone wool batts are an effective solution for improving growing conditions in challenging soil environments.
