PROOF OF CONCEPT
BOXofGREEN is a box with four sides of specially developed rock wool held together and packed in a hessian sack.
BOXofGREEN functions as a water reservoir that can hold up to 400 liters of water.
The rock wool absorbs the naturally occurring precipitation, and can thereby supply the tree's hairy roots with moisture.
As soon as the tree is planted, roots and hairy roots begin to work their way out towards and into the rock wool.
The hairy roots quickly attach to the rock wool plates, thereby stabilizing the tree.
The film shows a BOXofGREEN and the root network on an approximately 15-year-old Swamp Oak (Quercus palustris) in its second growing season after planting.
